Sports Massage

WHAT IS IT?

Sports Massage is the use of massage for the treatment and prevention of sports injuries.  It can be used as:

Part of a training programme

To prevent injury

Part of a rehabilitation programme

Part of a warm up or cool down


WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY TREATMENT?

An initial consultation will be made to discuss your injury concerns and issues, consisting of a postural and mobility assessment to help identify specific issues for treatment.  The client will then lay, sit or rest on the couch depending on the specific areas of the body that require treatment.  The therapist will then use their hands, fingers, thumbs, forearm or elbow to apply specific pressure.

WHAT IT MAY BE USEFUL FOR?


Improving suppleness & flexibility of muscles & joints, improving blood & lymph circulation, helping body systems function at optimum level, speeding up healing of damaged over-worked tissue & muscle,reducing recovery time, helping the sportsperson return to sport more quickly, improving performance, increasing fitness, preventing future injurry by identifying and treating weaknesses, improving energy levels, removing lactic acid, reducing stiffness, breaking down adhesions, improving muscle mobility, helping peak performance to be attained faster and sustaining a high level of performance. Sprts massage differs from other massage therapies in the fact that treatment is specific to each patient and even each session.

Treatments last up to 1 hour

Rosie Matthewson.   (Rosie qualified with the Massage Training Institute in 2001.  In 2005 she completed a course in the use of Hot Stones in massage.  She qualified as a Sports Massage Therapist with ITEC in June 2012.  Rosie also teaches Pilates in Loddon. She is also a qualified Personal Trainer with Futurefit Training.)
